PhD at the Warsaw University of Technology?

students

We are waiting for those who wish to become our PhD candidates. From 21 June to 14 August 2023 you may register in the admissions system. After completing all formalities, a beautiful research and teaching adventure is waiting for you. Maybe even a splendid career?

The form of PhD education changed a few years ago. Instead of third-cycle (doctoral) study, Doctoral Schools were established, and a few other changes followed (e.g., every PhD candidate receives a scholarship). One thing remains unchanged – doing research which leads to writing and then defending the doctoral dissertation. This path has been followed by Jacek Sikorski, PhD – the first graduate of the Warsaw University of Technology Doctoral School. His story may be a perfect source of information and inspiration for all those who are thinking about a PhD. Read his story.

What is the PhD admissions procedure?

Read about admissions to the WUT Doctoral School step by step:

  1. Find a potential thesis advisor and contact them to establish the planned research problem. The search engine of thesis advisors and research problems will come in handy. Remember, in the admissions system you can’t choose the problem from a list. In the search engine you will find a list of thesis advisors, check limits of places for the advisors, and learn the research fields of interest of potential advisors. This year we have prepared over 400 problems in 13 disciplines. There is plenty to choose from.
  2. Register in the admissions system IRK.
Complete your personal data and information about your education. Upload your photo. Choose your discipline. Make the payment (in the academic year 2023/2024 the fee is PLN 200). Fill in all sections, including Outline of the research work concept. Download necessary files and upload scans of signed documents. You need to complete these tasks by 14 August.
  3. If you pass substantiative evaluation, you will be invited to an interview. These have been planned for 25 August – 8 September.
  4. After the interview, the status of your admission will change to: ADMITTED – if you have the required number of points or REJECTED – if you do not have the required number of points. A ranking list will be published on 13 September.
  5. If you are admitted, you submit in the IRK system additional documents (diploma and statement). You need to do it from 14 to 20 September.
  6. The list of persons admitted will be published on 25 September. In the academic year 2023/2024 there will be 155 places in the PW Doctoral School.
  7. After the publication of the list of persons admitted, the Doctoral Students Service Department will inform you about the next steps, including the deadlines for submission of original admissions documents.
