The Biomaterials Student Research Group won the nationwide KoKoN competition, taking first place in the Scientific Research category. The winning project, titled “Angel – an innovative implant for muscle tissue regeneration,” was selected from among 15 submissions in this category.

NanoSPD Young Researcher Award 2025

Dr Piotr Bazarnik from the Faculty of Materials Science and Engineering, Warsaw University of Technology, received a distinction during the NanoSPD9 – 9th International Conference on Nanomaterials by Severe Plastic Deformation, held in Beijing, China, from 31 October to 4 November 2025. The event is one of the most prominent international conferences dedicated to severe plastic deformation (SPD) techniques.

WUT Faculty of Materials Science forges partnership with Kcarbon institute

The Faculty of Materials Science and Engineering at Warsaw University of Technology (WUT) has established a formal cooperation agreement with the Korea Carbon Industry Promotion Agency (Kcarbon) – a specialized research institution focusing on advanced carbon materials, particularly composites and polymer-based nanomaterials.

During the EMRS Spring Meeting conference in Strasbourg, elections were held for the leadership of the European Materials Research Society (EMRS) - one of Europe's most important scientific associations uniting materials research specialists. Prof. Małgorzata Lewandowska from the Faculty of Materials Science and Engineering at the Warsaw University of Technology was elected EMRS Vice President.

LOT Aircraft Maintenance Services is implementing a product innovation focused on eliminating the currently used chemical and mechanical technologies for removing paint coatings from aluminum and composite primary and secondary aircraft structures. Projects from PW received funding in the M-ERA.NET program

In mid-February, the ranking list for the M-ERA.NET 3 Call 2024 was published. The list includes two projects from PW, involving researchers from the Faculty of Materials Science and Engineering: “BAS4WIND - Basalt Fiber Composites for Sustainable Wind Energy” and “BioCAN - Development of bio-based polymers with covalently adaptable networks for recyclable natural fibre reinforced composite production”. Both projects have received funding under the program.

In mid-January, the ranking list no. 8 for the Weave-UNISONO competition was announced. Included on the list was the project titled "Hybrid crystalline-amorphous bioabsorbable composites - the breakthrough for medical devices," led by Prof. Wojciech Święszkowski.

The Joint 17th Conference on Rapidly Quenched and Metastable Materials (RQ 17) and 27th International Symposium on Metastable, Amorphous and Nanostructured Materials (ISMANAM 27) was organised at Warsaw University of Technology from 20th to 25th August 2023. It was excellent opportunity to share news and ideas on fundamental and applied research in the field of metallic glasses and other amorphous materials, nanocrystalline materials, other metastable materials, their processing, structure, properties and applications.
